I have been designing and painting illustrated maps
for over twenty years. My first commissioned map was of the estate of
Pink Floyd's David Gilmour and Polly Samson in 1994. Initials of all
family members and poems were intertwined with the delicate
the origins of traditional estate maps, my maps celebrate not only the
home of a client but also their lives, careers and weddings. Events
throughout their lives are illustrated. Funny stories such as having to
hide in an outside loo overnight as there was a leopard on the roof in
Northern Rhodesia have been depicted. (this was not David Gilmour by the
way..) To helping to start up The Prince's Trust and overcoming
adversity by climbing Mount Everest after catastrophic injury. Some
people live extraordinary lives but eveyone has their own tale to tell.
Such stories, when woven into an illustrated map become a wonderful
family heirloom and talking piece in the home.
